For our M meal we went to a 'Modern Mexican' restaurant, the Cantina Laredo in Covent Garden
It was very nicely laid out and clean and bright inside, which is a bit different from the usual Mexican chain restaurants that you find all over the place. We had a nice comfortable booth by the window. Service was friendly and fast, and when we pointed out that they had forgotten one of our side orders, they were very quick to bring one out.
There were plenty of options on the menu, and plenty of vegetarian variants too. Prices were pretty good, especially for the Covent Garden area - more expensive then the chains, but not stupid. £7.50 for a Prosecco and £9 for a Margarita was a bit steep though, and we debated long and hard over whether to splash out on either. Most of us went for the cheaper wine or beer options, whilst Joanne insisted on knocking back glasses of proseccos, while bemoaning the £40 cost of a bottle of the stuff (that's included just to see if she reads these posts :-)).
Whilst most of the menu options were fairly standard stuff, they were presented very well and were very tasty. I often find Mexican food is similar stuff in each dish, but called something different if it is put in a corn tortilla, a wheat tortilla, or a hard taco etc. Here, each dish had its own flavour, and there were enough options to try. Even the side dishes had their own distinct presentation and flavours.
Harry, who joined us for this meal, went for the adventurous chicken enchiladas with nuts and a chili chocolate sauce which the waiter was kind enough to explain in detail before confirming the order - I suspect many people had ordered it in the past and were surprised at what came out! Judging by the speed at which Harry ate it, it was tasty, though I think Joanne was unimpressed at the sauce when she tried it.
Pretty much all the food was eaten, and the three desserts we tried were all good too. I even liked the avocado ice cream, which was different from the norm, and a nice accompaniment to the lime cheesecake.
All in all a good meal, and at £40 a head for two and a half courses (we all shared a starter platter, which was probably enough for 3 people as a decent sized starter... there were 5 of us. And we had 3 desserts between us) and drinks, including copious glasses of prosecco for Joanne (just to check she has read this far...) it was a good price for the area. I'd be happy going back there for another meal.
