For our 'L' meal we went for a Lebanese:
Maison Touareg on Greek Street, Soho
Arriving at this restaurant on the Saturday evening, it was a good thing we had booked. The restaurant was very full, and we were led to a good sized table that was at knee height and hidden at the back of the restaurant, away from the main 'buzz'. Whilst we wondered why we were being put out of the way, it turned out to be a good thing, as it was much less noisy there (at least, it was until they turned the music up for the belly dancer that went around the rest of the restaurant and we discovered that we were right next to a speaker! Thankfully the music was turned down again soon after).
Service was pretty good - though being a little out of the way we did need to get the attention of a waiter a couple of times. Food arrived quickly after our order was taken though, and mains followed starters very quickly - maybe a little too quickly as we had a lot of food as a starter and it hadn't had a chance to settle in our stomachs before the mains arrived!
The low table was a little uncomfortable to eat at. We were sitting on normal sized chairs, so bending down more than we are used to in order to eat wasn't ideal.
There were a number of mezze dishes on the menu, and a fair few mains. We were all a bit unsure as to how much to order, as mezze dishes can be a little small, and the only set menus they had were meze set menus, with no main dishes, so we didn't know if that was more of a lunch set menu, or a full dinner-sized amount. In the end we ordered around 1-2 mezze dishes each for starters, and a main course each.
The starters arrived and they were very good sized starters, so we had ordered a bit much! All very nice though and went down very well. It did however mean we were a bit full by the time the main courses arrived and some struggled to finish their mains, which were also nice. I had a sort of calzone/pastie dish with spicy fried potatoes - nice, but the pastie thing was perhaps lacking a little flavour. The meat eaters in the party seemed happy with their meat dishes of lamb cous cous and a mixed grill, and Emma was pleased with her other veggie option of a tagine. All dishes were very substantial.
We were all very full after the main course, though I spotted a pomegranate cheesecake on the dessert menu, so I had to try some of that. Whilst it was a very nice cheesecake, it was simply a vanilla baked cheesecake with a few pomegranate seeds on top, so although nice, it was stretching the menu description slightly! Sorbet was on the menu too, but our waiter didn't really get the concept of sorbet and when asked what flavours they had available, just gave us the ice cream flavours instead, so we gave up with that line of enquiry!
Overall a nice meal and nice evening. Slightly expensive, but then we were in a very popular restaurant in the middle of Soho. Good flavours in most of the dishes and they certainly didn't skimp on the portions. A 12.5% service charge was automatically on the bill, and we were happy to pay that. Total around £40 per person, including drinks. I'd be happy to come back to this restaurant another time.
