The B meal was an Indian. We were at this stage trying for the 'place beginning with the letter too' challenge, and so B was translated as a Balti (though none of us actually had a Balti!) in Brick Lane. It set the precedent for us being fairly relaxed about the rules!
Despite liking curries, and living around London for all my life, I'd never been to a restaurant in Brick Lane, which is a different experience to eating out elsewhere in London.
We hadn't booked anywhere in particular - I think Andrew knew the routine around Brick Lane - and I would say that walking down Brick Lane in the evening looking for a restaurant is similar to being a tourist in Bangkok or Goa - every restaurant tries to persuade you to choose them rather than another. When in the mood, I love this kind of rapport, and luckily after a few drinks I was in the mood, so had a good time 'bantering' with the guys trying to get us in their restaurant. I thought it was funny, I expect the vendors get really fed up with drunk blokes trying to be funny every night. The others in our group stood back as I tried to get a good deal for the meal - free drinks, free starters etc, etc. I think in the end I settled for a restaurant that offered us a round table in the window. Not sure why having a round table was a selling point, but I was impressed with the fact that they tried to make it one,
I don't remember much about the meal, but after all, it was a curry in Brick Lane. I suspect they all taste pretty much the same. I don't even remember which restaurant we ended up in! I seem to recall the food was fine and tasty, though not out of this world. The competition in the area meant the meal was pretty good value, especially for London!
I'd be happy popping back to Brick Lane another time, though I'd need to be in the mood to be 'hassled' while walking down the road - I'm not always keen on that!
