E is for Eritrean (14th Mar 2014)

We had absolutely no idea where Eritrea was (well, we knew it was in Africa, and I had an idea it was close to Ethiopia, but that was about it), and equally no idea what the cuisine would be like. One restaurant stood out with very positive reviews, and the menu looked interesting so Mosob it was!

The website was great, lots of information and you can book online too. The restaurant ambiance was really good - cosy but not cramped, intimate but airy and lovely decor to enhance the mood.

Attentive and knowledgeable staff really made the meal a great experience.

The food is served on large, edible pancakes, and the idea is built around sharing your meal. You have additional pancakes to eat with and the idea is to tear off a bit of a pancake and use that to scoop some of the meat or vegetables in sauce, so no cutlery needed! After polishing off a lot of the food from the large pancake, all the sauce has soaked into this base and you can tear bits off that to eat at the end of the meal.

There was plenty of choice on the menu, and lots of great veggie options too. The really helpful staff were great at suggesting choices for us novices, and helping us learn how to eat Eritrean style!

The set menus helped take out the guesswork and allowed us to just sit back and enjoy the meal. African beers helped wash the great food down.
The food was really tasty, the experience really enjoyable and the staff really friendly and helpful. We have already been back to this restaurant, and fully intend to go again.
